Problem: The social stigma associated with women of color is weighed very negatively. Young girls grow up not seeing people like them represented in the media. Often times black women are often portrayed as angry, mean, ‘ghetto’ and the list continues. Through seeing and experiencing how this problem creates insecurities or fear of not being good enough, allowed me, as a designer, to promote change. Steering away from the selective spotlight in which the media portrays women of color.

Solution: The goal of this mock conference is to inspire, uplift and encourage young women to be themselves without feeling the need to shift or adapt to societal norms. This conference would create dialogue between women and girls ages 16-50+. A place where they can share experiences, stories and learn from one another. This conference as a collective would aspire to create a new narrative for the next generation, and continue to promote happiness and success. Doing so by offering a unique experience catered to women of color.
